The Grande Dame of punky British fashion, Vivienne Westwood, has just opened her first US store in LA, with a star-studded launch bash attended by some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
The eccentric British designer has long been a go-to choice for stars planning their red carpet outfits. Helena Bonham Carter, Dame Helen Mirren and Anne Hathaway all went for Westwood at the Oscars last month and Pamela Anderson apparently demanded Westwood make the costumes for her recent Pantomime debut at Wimbledon Theatre.
According to the Telegraph, guests at the party included Christina Hendricks, Dita Von Teese and Marilyn Manson. Hendricks is currently modelling Westwood's 'Get a Life' Palladium jewellery collection, and is a huge fan of the label. She says: 'As a young girl I would cut out pictures of her dresses from magazines, although I was never able to afford them. Even now I only have one in my closet.'
Apparently Westwood opted for the West Hollywood hills as her first US store, rather than New York, because the Big Apple 'is more conservative and less prone to risk-taking'. Surely this can't be true - New York's prima fashionista, Carrie Bradshaw, wore Westwood for her wedding! We reckon it'll only be a matter of time before VW heads eastwards...
