The future McQueen?
The Sunday Times claimed yesterday that Kate Middleton’s wedding dress will be designed by Alexander McQueen’s ‘right hand woman’ and now creative director of McQueen, Sarah Burton. But the Palace have flatly denied the rumours, stating that Kate wants the dress to be a complete surprise to William on the big day.
According to Vogue, McQueen's CEO Jonathan Akeroyd has also quashed the speculation, commenting ‘No, not at all. I am the CEO. I would know if we were doing it’. Burton herself has also denied the claims but The Sunday Times alleges that the news came directly from McQueen HQ, as Akeroyd told a colleague that the company had won the commission.
It could seem like a slightly far-out choice of designer, as McQueen is renowned for its extravagance and eccentricity. But Burton’s last collection did seem to take the label into a more delicate direction and it would certainly give the Royal seal of approval to a uniquely British fashion company. It seems we might just have to be patient and wait for the big unveil on 29th April.
