During last Monday's episode of The Face UK we discovered that racing in high heels and couture frocks can be done. Despite the sores caused by the tight shoes and the metal dresses rubbing against the skin over and over during the numerous takes, the wannabe models starring in the reality show hosted by Naomi Campbell, Erin O'Connor and Caroline Winberg delivered a powerful performance that fully embodied the quirky world of high fashion.
The striking outfits worn by the contestants have been designed by Dutch fashion wonder Iris van Herpen, who also provided 'that' delicious black number seen on Naomi Campbell in the second half of the show.
Coupled up with a full length skirt for Iris van Herpen's RTW Spring 2014 collection, the intricate piece also worked well on its own, producing a more sexy-dominatrix effect that perfectly suited the supermodel's sassy personality.
A couple of contestants were sporting some of van Herpen's signature 3D dresses that have made her famous with celebrity wacky fashionistas such as Lady Gaga and Björk.
The outfits, created using an extremely innovative technique which combines rapid prototyping technology and elaborate handwork, are a clear example of how deeply 3D printing is affecting the modern world and and a proof that this versatile reproduction technique is becoming the way forward for many industries.
