"Stellar" McCartney scoops designer of the year
Organised by the British Fashion Council, the awards celebrate the best emerging and established fashion talents within the British fashion industry and Stella McCartney walked away with the top accolade this year. British Designer of the Year.
A panel of top fashion editors, retailers and influencers make up the judges and their committee is chaired by British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman. Ten of the UK's leading fashion gurus were were also honoured at the ceremony. Dame Vivienne Westwood walked away with the outstanding achievement in fashion award.
36-year-old McCartney's not always had an easy ride since her label launche in 2001. Considering a huge investment from the Gucci Group was poured into the brand (they own 50 per cent), McCartney only turned over an operating profit this year.
