Stella McCartney is most searched fashion designer on Google Zeitgeist
Stella McCartney is the most searched-for name and label of 2012. The British designer has been crowned the most popular fashion-related search online by Google Zeitgeist. This news has been the icing on the cake for Stella, who had a very busy and positive year.
McCartney has been recently nominated Designer of the Year and Designer Brand at the prestigious British Fashion Awards, following the success of her latest collections and her design for the Team GB kit for London 2012 Olympics, which took almost two years in the making.
Google Zeitgeist, or 'spirit of the time', is the end of the year's list of the most sought-after terms on the most popular searching engine in the world. The list is divided in trending topics, such as images, people, and obviously fashion labels, and names who had the highest numbers of viewings.
Stella McCartney tops the fashion chart, followed by, in order, Karl Lagerfeld, Victoria's Secret, Alice Temperley, Versace, Mulberry, Marks and Spencer, Ossie Clark, Burberry and LK Bennett.
Macca's daughter had many reasons to celebrate this marvellous year, one of the most satisfying being to have achieved her status as designer in her very own terms. Her journey hasn't always been easy, though, as she openly explained during her acceptance speech at the BFAs.
Years ago, for instance, she was talking with a fashion executive about her intention to start a 'solo' career, to which he replied: “Stella, you will live to regret this. You will fail, and I offer to you to stay here in Paris and start your brand with us.” When she politely declined the generous offer he added “You need to learn. There has never in history of fashion been a British fashion house with a woman's name on the label that has ever been truly global.”
What can we say? Eat your heart out Mr Executive!
