A guide to buying ski and snowboard clothing

Skiing and snowboarding have become some of the most popular extreme sports that you can undertake during winter. In addition to surfing, skiing and snowboarding have been embraced by many, largely because they can be done by people of all ages.

But before hitting the mountains for that fun filled experience, you should make sure you have the right gear with you. It is therefore wise to choose your ski and snowboard clothing well; else, you may end up spoiling the much anticipated fun.

Purchasing Ski and snowboard clothing

There are a number of important factors you should consider when shopping for ski and snowboard clothing. These include your protection from wind, water, frozen ice and breathability. Below are tips to consider:

Base Layer

It is important that you purchase skiing underwear that will keep you warm and dry. The ideal base layer must have the ability to keep away moisture and the attribute of drying quickly. For this case, cotton base layers should be avoided as they do not dry quickly enough and will therefore freeze you off.

Second layer

For the second layer, the ski and snowboard clothing must have good insulation properties. Just like with the base layer, cotton clothing is not advisable as it tends to be highly absorbent. You may consider buying more second layers depending on the prevailing skiing and snowboarding temperatures.

Last/outer layer

These include ski and snowboard outfits that are totally waterproof and wind resistant. The outfits include pants and jackets that have been treated with a water proof outer layer. In addition to being waterproof, the gear should have good breathability. Skiing jackets and pants with a 10k/10k breathable/waterproof rating are the most recommended.

You can check out ski and snowboard outer clothing made from special fabric like Gore-tex as it has this high performance rating. Other minor accessories include beanies and hand gloves.
