Sarah Burton plans lighter future for McQueen
Alexander McQueen’s right hand aide and newly appointed creative director of the McQueen label Sarah Burton has told Vogue.com that her womenswear show will be lighter than McQueen’s previous collections.
In an interview with Vogue she said ‘I don't think it has to have as much angst in it. I think it will become softer. There will always be this McQueen spirit and essence. But, of course, I'm a woman so maybe more from a woman's point of view.
McQueen’s catwalk shows were renowned for their drama and theatricality, often with a dark, macabre feel. Burton, however, says that she has a lighter disposition and this will be evident in the new collection, which is her first solo collection for the brand. She explained: ‘That was very much Lee's territory - the spectacular show. In that way, I can't try and pretend to be Lee.’
Burton’s collection will be shown in Paris next week, and we are on tenterhooks to see the new direction she has taken with the iconic label.
