New Yorkers hail McQueen
New York's Costume Institute opened its doors to some of the world's glitziest celebs on Monday night for a gala evening in honour of Alexander McQueen.
The annual event marked the opening of the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition at the Met. Speaking at the event Madonna said: 'I miss him terribly. Not only as a person but as a designer. I think the fashion business is a little bit dull without him and I loved his provocative punk rock attitude. I hope he's having fun wherever he is right now.'
The style stakes were predictably high, with Rihanna rocking it in a stunning black lace dress with raunchy sheer side panel, by Stella McCartney, whilst Christina Ricci opted for an ornate gothic spiders web-esque dress by American designer Zac Posen. Other celebrity attendees included long-time McQueen friend Sarah Jessica Parker, Blake Lively, Renee Zellweger, Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson whilst the Brits were represented by Florence Welch and of course McQueen's new creative director (and designer of THAT dress) Sarah Burton.
