Naomi Campbell struts it for Versace in Paris
The queen of the runway at this week’s Paris Fashion Week was without a doubt the stunning 43-year old Naomi Campbell.
The British super model made her return to the catwalk for one of her BFF fashion designers, Donatella Versace, to show off the Italian luxury brand’s haute-couture Fall and Winter 2013-2014 collection.
For the Venere Nera (black Venus), as the Italians lovingly dubbed her years ago, it was the first time in fifteen years that she took to the runway for the fashion house, and it was also the first time she returned to Paris after being mugged last January, which left her with torn ligaments in her leg and temporarily confined to a wheelchair.
Guests attending the event, like Uma Thurman, Afef Jnifen, Emma Roberts and Mena Suvari, Delphine Chaneac, designer Vera Wang, Franca Sozzani and actor and producer Zachary Quinto and his brother Joe Quinto, were delightedly surprised and cheered to see the statuesque Campbell open the show.
With her unmistakable strut, the super model wore a black velvet dress with cut out panels with hook and eye detailing and also plunging black leather and lace basque under a sequined and beaded black jacket.
Speaking about her return to the catwalk Naomi said: 'I'm so happy to be here in Paris tonight to walk for Donatella. We've known each other over 25 years now. Straight away I felt like part of the family, everybody was so warm and supportive.'
The model also paid tribute to Donatella's late brother Gianni and said: 'Of course there was Gianni. Apart from being one of the most inspirational and respected of designers of all time, he was like a brother to me.... always there in good and bad times the memory will never fade. So as you can tell this is an emotional evening for me. It really is a great privilege to be here.'
Describing her 2013-2014 collection, Donatella Versace said, “I started this Atelier Versace collection by dreaming about the perfect aesthetic of the black-and-white era. I wanted to make it new, and pictured a sexy and sophisticated woman with a strong attitude. Only a true icon like Naomi Campbell could open this show.”
