We look at how heritage brands are making a fashion comeback
With the ever increasing popularity of things from across the Atlantic and, to a lesser extent, mainland Europe on our fashion sensibilities, it's nice to see that there has been something of a resurgence of UK heritage brands in the last year or so. Offering clothes that are unashamedly proud of their British heritage, these brands have once again given us all the chance to stand out from the crowd.
What are heritage brands?
Heritage brands are best described as brands of clothing that are proud of their national roots, as well the history of their parent country's styles and looks down through the years. They take the very best of their nation's historical looks, while often modernising them for the current market and to enable them to reach a much broader audience.
Why are they making a comeback?
It's difficult to say why heritage brands are starting to prove so popular once again in the United Kingdom, given that up until very recently people would turn their noses up at the thought of wearing what they considered to be "old fashioned" styles.
However, with such a broad historical palette to choose from, it's perhaps not surprising that younger designers are starting to look to the past in order to delivery stunning contemporary threads.
Brands to look out for
It won't surprise you to learn that the majority of big names in the heritage brand field right now are long established companies, such as Burberry, Mulberry and Pringle. However, after spending so long out of the mainstream loop, often being considered labels for posers and the more affluent among us, it might be a little shock to the system to note just how much these brands have come along.
Whether you're looking for a stylish jacket, a nice pair of trousers, a shirt or sweater or just an accessory to round off your look, you'll find any number of options on show from these brands alone.
Aren't they all too expensive?
The issue that many people seem to have with heritage brands is the fact that they can prove to be a little on the pricey side at times. However the last year or so has seen many of the more established companies bringing their pricing in line with the high street for a number of different ranges.
If you are interested in a real British flavour to your look, we recommend that you give some strong consideration to the heritage brands available right now.
