Gaga gushes at the CFDA awards
When it comes to fearlessness in the face of fashion, no one comes close to Lady Gaga. Whether wrapped in raw meat or appearing pregnant in a black latex catsuit, the Gagameister knows how to work a strong look, albeit occasionally from the depths of hell. And yesterday this dedication to style was recognised by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) when they awarded Lady G the Fashion Icon trophy at this year’s ceremony.
According to the BBC the CFDA described Gaga as a ‘fashion revolutionary’ at the event, which is held at New York’s Lincoln Center. Gaga told the assembled crowd: ‘All of you made me feel like a star before I was’ and she gave recognition to her right-hand fashion aide Nicola Formichetti.
The audience was made up of the great and powerful of American fashion including Marc Jacobs, Anna Wintour, Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan and Michael Kors. Jacobs received the half-lifetime achievement award for his contribution to fashion, receiving a standing ovation, and Vogue photographer Arthur Elgort received the special tribute award.
The Telegraph’s Hilary Alexander flew the British flag by picking up the Media Award, telling the audience: ‘I am hugely honoured and feel I am accepting this award on behalf of the entire British fashion industry.’
