Diamonds: possibly not a girl's best friend
Naomi Campbell's statement to the court during last year's blood diamond trial has been publicly challenged, by none other than Nelson Mandela's charity director Jeremy Ractcliffe. That's going to make all those Mandela photo ops a little awkward in future...
According to Vogue, Ractcliffe issued a public statement saying, 'Naomi Campbell told us that late on the night of September 25, two people whose names she did not know came to her room and handed her three diamonds as a present from the African leader who had sat next to her at the dinner party. She appeared to be at a loss as to what to do with them. She suggested that they be possibly given to the fund. I told her I did not want to be involve the fund in anything that could possibly be of dubious origin, or even illegal.'
This statement could mean that the trial will be recalled, with Campbell being asked to re-testify.
