Chanel 2014 Women's Cruise Collection
Celebrating its 100th anniversary of the first Chanel boutique in Deauville, France, this year’s French luxury label launched its 2013-2014 Cruise Resort collection with a stunning fashion show in the city of Singaporem off the southern tip of the Malaysian peninsula,
After Venice and Miami, creative director Karl Lagerfeld chose the booming south east Asian city, considered to be the richest cities on the planet, to seduce the world with his latest collection.
The reason for showing in Singapore, said Chanel, is that it is "the ultimate cruise destination; it is summer all year round".
The fashion show was held at Loewen Cluster at Dempsey Hill, a former British colonial army barracks and a nutmeg plantation.
The designs are a low key mix of west meets east, inspired by some elements of Singaporean culture, but keeping with the hallowed mark of French chic and sophistication.
The color palette featured predominately white, black, cream and indigo/navy blue, with some traditional Asian ethnic patterns and light fabrics paving the way for the soft silhouettes with some exquisite detailing that included, beaded tulle, feathers and latex-gilded lace.
For the tropical heat there were raffia dresses and short knit or lace dresses. Cool and fresh looking high-waisted wide legged trousers paired double-breasted jackets or oversize T-shirts featuring white leather and tulle inserts.
Long-line cardigans with pockets, boxy jackets in various lengths, black lace jackets and jacquard sweaters with exposed shoulders also made their appearance on the runway.
There was also a set of designs backed on the cricket theme, basically all white, with oversized jumpers, shirts, skinny striped ties, with the models wielding cricket bats and wearing knee-guards.
One of the accessories was an evening bag version of the iconic Chanel N°5 perfume bottle with the classic chain strap.
The day before the catwalk presentation, an 18-minute short film, called Once upon A Time, was shown in the courtyard of Singapore's Raffles Hotel. The film, starring Keira Knightley and directed by Lagerfeld himself, which reimagines Coco Chanel's first day of business in Deauville.
