Atelier Versace Spring and Summer 2014 haute couture collection is all about drapes and cowls
The curtain lifted yesterday evening in Paris on haute couture fashion and kickstarting the Paris Fashion week 2014 at Le Centorial, was Atelier Versace with their Spring /Summer 2014 collection.
Sitting on the front row dressed to kill in a stunning and dramatic black floor length draped gown that featured a cowl - a perfect example of what Atelier Versace’s S/S 2014 collection was all about - was the one and only Lady Gaga .
Lady Gaga and Donatella Versace are BFFs, and look like mother and daughter, and they are so close that the singer included a song on her Artpop album called ‘Donatella,’ and the Italian designer returned the favor by making the Mother Monster the face of the 2014 Versace Spring ad campaign.
Atelier Versace’s collection was sophisticated and opulent and as we previously said was rich with beautiful cowls – so very Grace Jones - with ultra-feminine and sensually draped gowns and cocktail dresses fit for a Grecian goddess or a Hollywood superstar ready to walk the red carpet and then stand on stage to receive her prestigious Oscar statue.
There were also full skirts for elegant volume with ethereal and transparent fabrics, but also geometric embroidery, shorts, ankle cropped pants and tops with plunging necklines, and colorful fur.
We know wearing fur is not cool, and the video of beautiful angora rabbits having their fur ripped off turned everyone off from buying angora sweaters this past winter, with protests that high street retailers remove the items from their shelves, but this is haute couture after all, and the plush cobalt blue fur coat that supermodel Karlie Kloss donned said it all about high fashion.
Atelier Versace’s color palette included stunning shades of cobalt and powder blue, pale green, orange, silver, lavender, yellow, white, black, and glitzy champagne and gold, the true signature of a luxurious Versace collection.
