2008 kicks off with a bang

Hundreds of thousands of party goers saw in the New Year by the River Thames, as an enormous fireworks display lit up the London skyline this year. An estimated 700,000 people descended on London's streets to watch the display at the London Eye, which burst into life just after Big Ben welcomed the start of 2008 (only 120 arrests, Ken was pleased).

In Scotland, there were apparently 100,000 people celebrating on the streets of Edinburgh for the city's world famous Hogmanay street party.

The Hilton Sisters, Paris and Nicky, hosted their New Year's Eve 2008 party at LAX Nightclub in the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Among those present were Pamela Anderson, Kevin Federline and Larry Birkhead.

Paris was dressed in a sparkling, multi colored mini dress that had 'I Love Paris' written boldly on it. But of course.

New York didn't disappoint, with the magnificent ball that drops into Times Square celebrating its 100th New Year. This year, the ball was also lit up with the environment in mind. It was adorned with 9,576 energy-efficient bulbs that used about the same amount of electricity as it takes to power a single kitchen oven. Pat on the back for New York.
